Washpen Chalet

Washpen Falls is 50 minutes from Christchurch airport (70km) and Washpen Chalet not only makes and ideal spot to rest after a long flight before heading for playgrounds further afield, but the variety of activities in the area makes it a good spot to stay for a few days.

Washpen Chalet is a versatile self contained cottage built from Douglas Fir, situated in the middle country of our high country farm and is well away from the homestead ensuring privacy and security. It is surrounded by tussock grass and bordered by a beautiful trout stream and native bush.

Having been a second house on the property for members of the family, the chalet makes an ideal homely spot for a couple having a getaway, but with 3 bedrooms it can accommodate a large family or a group of up to 7 friends seeking adventure. All linen is provided.

It has a full kitchen, bathroom, and all the modern conveniences. The spacious living room boasts a cosy open fireplace to keep you warm in winter (fire wood is provided).

On the property behind the chalet is the famous Washpen Falls Walkway, which takes visitors through an ancient volcanic canyon, now a reserve filled with lush native bush and birdlife, the unspoiled area is easily accessed via sympathetically constructed tracks, stairs and boardwalks.

Nearby is the Terrace Downs Golf Resort, the Mount Hutt ski field, Rakaia Gorge jet boating and fishing and a little futher afield there is the very picturesque Lake Coleridge, Mt Olympus ski fields, as well as Hororata and Methven Golf courses.

The Chalet is available all the year round, the only restrictions being that we cannot accept pets and smoking is confined to the outside.
